Customers love sparkle, but "sparkly vinyl" can mean very different things. Siser offers three popular options: classic Glitter, smooth Sparkle and the newer Twinkle. They look different in person, feel different on the shirt and follow different rules for layering and pressing. Choosing the right one can be the difference between a design that looks high-end and one that feels stiff or loses its shine.

Siser Glitter: Maximum Sparkle
Siser Glitter HTV is the classic choice when you want designs to shine from across the room. It is packed with glitter that does not shed, comes in more than 30 colors and is CPSIA certified for kids' clothing. Glitter applies to 100% cotton, poly/cotton blends, 100% polyester and even leather.
- Press: 320°F for 10–15 seconds, medium pressure, warm peel.
- Layering: do not layer other HTV on top of Glitter. It can be used as the top layer over standard vinyl.
- Bonus: you can sublimate directly onto white Siser Glitter. See how to sublimate on glitter HTV.
Best for: cheer, dance, birthday shirts, kids' clothing and any design where bold sparkle is the goal. Follow our Glitter HTV application instructions for best results.
Siser Sparkle: Shimmer with a Smooth Finish
Siser Sparkle is designed as a fashionable alternative to Glitter. Silver glitter flakes are embedded inside the material, so the surface stays smooth and soft to the touch. It is laser-friendly, CPSIA certified and, unlike Glitter, can be layered.
- Press: 305°F for 15–20 seconds, medium to firm pressure, peel hot or cold.
- Works on: t-shirts, hoodies, sweats and scrubs, and even items like shoes and belts.
Best for: customers who want shine without the texture of glitter, multi-color layered designs and everyday wear. See our how to apply Sparkle guide.
Siser Twinkle: Glossy and Reflective
Siser Twinkle has a glossy, silicone-like surface with reflective flakes embedded inside. The effect is a glassy, wet-look sparkle that catches the light. At 225 microns, it is thinner than Glitter, and it cuts on 45° or 60° blades with popular desktop cutters like Cricut, Silhouette and Brother. It is CPSIA certified.
- Press: 305°F for about 15 seconds with medium to firm pressure, warm peel.
- Fabrics: 100% cotton, cotton/poly blends and 100% uncoated polyester.
- Layering: do not layer other HTV on top of Twinkle.
- Care: wait 24 hours, wash inside out in warm or cold water with mild detergent, no bleach or dry cleaning.
Best for: beach and vacation shirts, mermaid themes, teacher tees, baby outfits and boutique-style designs that need a polished look.
How to Choose
- Want the most sparkle possible? Glitter.
- Want sparkle that is smooth and soft, and can be layered? Sparkle.
- Want a glossy, reflective, modern finish? Twinkle.
- Need full-color glitter with no weeding? Consider glitter DTF. Our post on glitter DTF vs. glitter HTV explains the difference.
Layering Rules for Sparkly HTV
Glitter and Twinkle should always be the top layer because standard HTV will not bond well to their textured or glossy surfaces. Sparkle is more flexible and can be layered. When building a multi-color design, cut your base colors in standard EasyWeed, tack them for a second or two, then finish with your glitter or twinkle accent. Our guide on how to layer HTV covers the steps.
Cutting and Weeding Tips
- Use a fresh blade. Thicker glitter films dull blades faster. Learn more about 45° vs. 60° blades.
- Use the right cut setting. Craft cutters usually have a glitter iron-on preset. Always do a test cut.
- Keep details bold. Very thin script and tiny text are harder to weed in thick glitter.
- Weed with good light and a hook tool. Here are more tips for weeding HTV like a pro.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which sparkly HTV is the softest?
Sparkle and Twinkle both have smooth surfaces and feel softer than traditional Glitter, which is thicker and textured.
Does glitter HTV shed?
Siser Glitter is made so the glitter does not shed, which is one reason it is so popular for kids' clothing.
Can I use these on a hoodie?
Yes. All three work on cotton and cotton/poly blend hoodies. Use a pressing pillow if seams or pockets get in the way.
