If you're decorating kids' garments — onesies, youth tees, school hoodies, dance costumes — you need to know your materials are safe. The Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA) sets strict federal limits on lead and phthalates in products intended for children under 12. Phthalates are chemical plasticizers linked to developmental issues in young children, and since heat transfer vinyl bonds directly to fabric, the certification matters.

The good news: the majority of Siser HTV we carry is CPSIA certified — lead-free, phthalate-free, and safe for use on children's clothing and accessories. Here's the full list.

What CPSIA Certification Means

CPSIA-certified heat transfer vinyl has been tested and confirmed to meet federal safety standards for:

  • Lead content — Total lead limit of 100 ppm in surface coatings
  • Phthalate content — Eight specific phthalates restricted to no more than 0.1% concentration

Some products in our catalog are also Prop 65 Compliant, meaning they meet California's stricter chemical safety requirements as well.

If you're producing decorated garments commercially for children and need documentation, contact us — we can help connect you with the appropriate product safety data.
