Understanding Image Resizing for Transfers

by Romont Johnson on July 01, 2024
When ordering custom transfers, understanding how we resize your image can help ensure you get the perfect fit for your project. Here’s a simple explanation to make the process clear.

How Image Resizing Works

When we resize your image for a custom transfer, we base the size on the longest side of your image. For example, let’s say you’re ordering an Adult+ sized transfer, where the longest side is set to 12 inches.

Maintaining Proportions

To keep your image looking great, we maintain the original aspect ratio. This means if the longest side of your image is resized to 12 inches, the other side will automatically adjust to match the proportions of the original image. This prevents the image from looking stretched or squished.

Examples

Every image has different proportions, so the exact size of the other side will vary. Here are a couple of examples:

• Square Image: If your original image is a square (e.g., 10 inches by 10 inches), when the longest side is resized to 12 inches, both sides will be 12 inches (12x12 inches).
• Rectangular Image: If your original image is a rectangle (e.g., 8 inches wide and 16 inches tall), the longest side (16 inches) will be resized to 12 inches. The shorter side will resize proportionally to 6 inches, making the final dimensions 6x12 inches.

Why This Matters

Maintaining the aspect ratio is crucial for keeping your image looking its best. This way, whether your design is a logo, a photo, or a graphic, it will always retain its original shape and not appear distorted.
